The business landscape has changed fundamentally; tomorrow’s environment will be different, but no less rich in possibilities for those who are prepared.1

It is apparent to anyone not living under a rock that the business landscape continues to change and evolve. We see turmoil in the markets, roiled by forces from overseas. The role of government in our lives has been expanding, and businesses must endeavor to comply with new regulations, mandated by Dodd Frank, some of which have not even been finalized yet. The effect of the Affordable Care Act, when fully implemented, remains uncertain. The Jumpstart Our Business Startups Act, (“JOBS Act”), with its accompanying “Crowdfunding” will certainly change the way in which some new companies may operate, causing potential issues for transfer agents, but also possible opportunities. And now that tracking cost basis has become the norm, agents will have to yet again develop new procedures and update systems to comply with The Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act, ("FATCA"), regulations, now postponed until June 30, 2014, but still on the horizon. In addition, the fate of the NYSE Proxy Fee Advisory Committee’s recommended changes to the fees for the distribution of proxy materials remains uncertain, as the industry waits for a determination from the SEC about whether this proposal should be disapproved. Regulators are showing a heightened focus on the potential of fraud and are considering what the transfer agent industry should do to help combat it. Does your organization have the information it needs to succeed in this environment?

You can learn about these and other issues at the STA Annual Conference. Feedback received from attendees at last year’s Conference was extremely positive, and we believe that this year’s Program will be even better. Please take a moment to review the agenda. A wide range of industry professionals and regulatory officials will bring you up to date on what you need to know to manage your business in “the new normal”. This STA Conference will also enhance your continued professional development.

Qualified attendees will be eligible for 11.25 CCTS/CSOP continuing education credits. Be sure to stay for the entire program; the STA will hold a drawing for an Apple I-Pad, with attachable slim keyboard, but you must be present at the last session to qualify!
